Review of Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas: A True Luxury Experience

I am a big fan of The Four Seasons hotels & resorts brand, and I have always been. Having done my college major in hospitality management, and interning at The Four Seasons Seattle, I know they are one of the best luxury hotel brands in the world. Accessible in terms of locations, thoughtful in their designs that incorporate the local and historical details of the city or country they’re located in, and the most consistent and best customer service any hotel brand can offer, it’s not a surprise that they have such devoted loyal customers, including us.

This spring, we went to Cabo. It was an easy choice for us—a 4-hour-ish direct flight from Seattle, perfect weather, great food, sun, and beaches. Although the Four Seasons Cabo at Costa Palmas was the number one hotel of all the Four Seasons hotels I’ve stayed at, this Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol might be a close second. Not surprised that they were on Conde Nast Traveller’s 2025 Hot List and one of the Best New Hotels of 2025 on Travel and Leisure!

The Grounds

The property has just recently opened, and everything feels more intimate than the other one at Costa Palmas (not good or bad, just an observation). The San Lucas style is beautifully done in the modern hacienda style, which I didn’t know I loved so much. The arches on the white walls, the flooring tiles, and the details in each of their public restrooms, depending on which restaurant they are a part of, are all very tastefully done.

Being almost brand-new, their gym does not disappoint. As usual, it’s located within the spa’s facility, and “huge” cannot even begin to describe the size of this gym. There are many machines to choose from for any exercise one might need to do. As a runner, I was pretty stoked to see the Woodway treadmill in my sight – all three to be exact. They are new, and very functional – no notes. There are plenty of spaces to do free weights or floor workouts, as one might, and there is another room for yoga or pilates, if needed. While we were staying at the property, a considerably big wedding was happening, and some days, the gym was crowded. However, it never felt so crowded that we couldn’t work out there ever!

Speaking of the spa, their spa facility might be the best-looking one I’ve seen. I thought the Kona Village’s spa, which we just went to in February, was insane enough (surrounded by volcanoes and all), but this one is just pretty and zen-like. The waiting areas are communal and gender-specific, just like any other spa. Still, this one has some sitting nooks or cabana-like ones in the communal area, but also separate enough to be secluded. I don’t know, it’s just awesome. There is also a delicious lunch menu. I was very tempted to return the next day to try it, and I regret that I didn’t.

The individual treatment room is a private, nature-embraced setting and one of my best massages.

The Suite

Although we did get an ocean view with a plunge pool one-bedroom suite (that’s a mouthful), I don’t doubt that all of their rooms would be as spectacular. This suite has more space than we need (and we never say no to more space!): a big living room with a TV, a big bathroom with two sinks, bathtub, a shower room, a toilet room, and an outdoor shower space, a bedroom with siting area and another TV, and, most importantly, a vast dressing room (not a walk-in closet) with space for doing makeups if you’d want to have a dedicated space for that.

Not to mention, from the bedroom or living room, the doors open up into an oversized patio with a seating area, a dining area, a decent-sized plunge pool, two very comfortable lounge chairs, and super convenient access to the family pool/ beach. Yes, there were many things I just listed out, and I am sure I left something out. The room’s amenities are insane, let alone every detail designed for each space. It is genuinely well done. The one thing I would say as feedback is that there may be more (or brighter) lights in the room. The switches in each space turn off everything if you press the On/Off button, and I can’t tell you how many times I accidentally turned everything off. The brightest setting also doesn’t seem to be bright enough, especially for the main living room, but we didn’t spend much time there, so it was a non-issue for us at least.

This was also the first time we booked a pool room, as we enjoy time by the pool or on the beach with other guests. Sometimes the liveliness of the place from their guests, the music, and especially getting drinks and food a lot faster and easier from the pool/beach is what we prefer. However, I must say that I don’t know how my husband would not want a room with a pool anymore, at least for a resort. He thoroughly enjoyed taking a dip in our private pool and could go straight to the shade if he liked to. The one thing that isn’t too happy about this revelation is probably our bank account, ha!

The Goods (Food & Drinks)

Regarding food and beverages at luxury resorts, I must admit that not many places can do their local food justice. For example, the Four Seasons Nam Hai (Hoi An) food was delicious, but I wouldn’t say it was authentic. I would still order their Cao Lau noodles if I happened to have breakfast there, but chances are, I would go to the town to get the better version of it. Anyway, I digress. (I love you, Four Seasons Nam Hai!!!)

Since this is about a Cabo resort, we ate Mexican food. And we ate Mexican food very well. Not in quantity, as their main Mexican restaurant, Coraluz, is open daily for lunch; it’s only for dinner on Sundays and Mondays. The food at both services is delicious, though. We’d get a quinoa bowl with protein and a side of ceviche for lunch to share. Light, fresh, and full of flavors. The al pastor pork tacos, as was their corn on the cob, were a big hit at dinner. My mouth is watering thinking about those tacos!

However, the most significant food highlight here has to be the recently opened Nikkei restaurant Cayao. We went there twice during our stay (it was so good!), and both nights it was packed with people, resort guests, and visitors from the town! Their menu is vast, and every dish packs a big punch. Our favorite dish is Braised Short Rib rice: slow-braised short rib for 48 hours, mixed in with a bowl of fried rice – it was the most delicious rice bowl I’ve ever had, and I’m not lying. (To the contrary, we got served another short rib meal on the flight home with Delta, so saying we went to heaven and back to hell might be the correct expression.) Back to Cayao, their brioche, shrimp & chicken skewers, nigiris, angry tuna rolls, and wagyu beef udon noodles are all yummy.

The other restaurant, Palmero, is worth a visit as well – Italian and Mediterranean fusion with very delicious beef tartare, pork ragu pasta, or catch of the day. Gorgeous view with live music at night, too! Or, for breakfast: steak & eggs – definitely a must-order!

Need your coffee? Not to worry, the cutest Hacienda-styled store, Mercado, can fix that. They have all the things you’d want from a neighborhood bakery: espresso, iced coffee, smoothies, juices, salad, pastries, ice cream, fruit plates, cured meats, bread, alcohol, sodas, wine, tequila, decors. I mean, everything. I was thinking to myself that who would buy a big loaf of bread while on vacation at a resort?! Not even the guests at those massive 4 or 5-bedroom villas. Then, I realized that there were residences around the property. Wealthy people who spent a lot of money to have a place here will want to get their bread and a salumi sandwiches now and then! I did love that store, though. Their matcha lattes were very good, as was their coconut sorbet.

Final Thoughts

Despite all of the above – the stunning property, the sunniest days, the whales swimming by to say Hi, the undeniable delicious food, the margaritas even, they mean so much but never enough if the service sucks. And, their service did not suck one bit. I have never been at any Four Seasons hotels that had a bad service (I’ve stayed at 12 properties now), and this is why we love this hotel brand. The staff was super friendly in the most genuine way. They were excited to serve us, to have a conversation with us, and went out of their way to care for us. Like I mentioned earlier, I used to intern at the Seattle one. Having worked in this industry for some time, and knowing the people who work there, I believe their staff offers the best customer service in the industry, way exceeding their competitors’ standards, is because the company treats their employees well. It shows in how they treat their guests – simple as that. From a guest’s POV, if we’re going to spend this much money, there is an expectation to be met and went beyond. One might think it’s a no brainer to get great service at all these luxury hotel brands: wrong! Kona Village is an example of beautiful things don’t guarantee a return for us. Same as the Ritz Carlton in Osaka, or the JW Marriotts in Phoeniz, AZ.

That being said, did I enjoy my stay at the Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas? I loved. Did I like it more or less than the other Four Seasons Cabo at Costa Palmas? I can’t tell – I am torn. I need to compare it side by side to know for sure, which means … perhaps another trip back to Cabo soon?

I can’t wait.

But next, Four Seasons Osaka. Brand sparkling new.
